ULF MATTSSON APPOINTED PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF DOMCO TARKETT; JOHN GALLO NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

FARNHAM, Quebec, March 21, 2000 --- On behalf of the Board of Directors of Domco Tarkett Inc. ("Domco Tarkett" or the "Corporation"), Robert W. Van Buren, Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer is pleased to announce the appointment of Ulf Mattsson as president and chief operating officer of the Corporation. Mattsson had been president and general manager of Harris-Tarkett, a Domco Tarkett subsidiary.

In a related move, John Gallo, president and general manager of Domco, a division of Domco Tarkett, is being given additional responsibilities in the newly created position of executive vice president of Domco Tarkett.

The appointments are effective immediately.

"Ulf Mattsson and John Gallo each have proven track records in management and manufacturing in the flooring industry," said Robert W. Van Buren. "Their combined experience will provide valuable management continuity as we continue to build on the marketing and manufacturing momentum we have created at Domco Tarkett."

"We have accomplished a lot in a short period of time, but we have much work ahead of us as we continue to enhance the value of our products and services to our customers," added Van Buren. "Ulf and John are the right leadership team at the right time to assure our success."

Ulf Mattsson

Mattsson joined Harris-Tarkett in December 1997 as president and chief executive officer. During his tenure, the company enjoyed double-digit sales growth each year and a dramatic improvement in earnings, firmly positioning it as a solid competitor in the North American hardwood flooring sector.

This performance was made possible through a number of initiatives that included: a capital investment program at each of the company’s manufacturing facilities to help increase production, enhance manufacturing efficiencies and improve service; the acquisition and successful integration of Stuart Flooring Corporation, Stuart, Va.; the implementation of a continuous improvement program; as well as the addition of new products to Harris-Tarkett’s existing range.

Prior to joining Harris-Tarkett, Mattsson was managing director for Tarkett Ltd., U.K., with responsibility for day-to-day management of the company, including sales, marketing and manufacturing for Ireland and strategic and market planning to support the Tarkett Group’s overall marketing strategies in that region. He began his career with Tarkett AB, Sweden, in 1988 and held a number of corporate positions including assistant to the president of the Tarkett Group where he functioned as a worldwide business and marketing analyst, overseeing international management projects.

Mattsson will retain management responsibilities at Harris-Tarkett until his successor has been named.

A native of Sweden, Mattsson holds a master’s degree in business administration and has completed university studies at the University of Stockholm, the Stockholm School of Economics, the Harvard Business School and the Institute for Management Development (IMD) in Lausanne.

John Gallo

Gallo joined Domco in 1994 as vice president of manufacturing. He most recently spearheaded the seamless consolidation of Tarkett sheet flooring operations at Domco’s Farnham, Que. facility, following the cessation of manufacturing at Tarkett’s plant in Whitehall, Pa. In addition, he supervised the expansion and updating of the Farnham facility.

Following the acquisition in mid-1999 of Tarkett and Harris-Tarkett by Domco, Gallo was named senior vice president of operations for Domco Tarkett and president of the new Domco Division. In addition to his duties as president of Domco, he also supervised the company’s manufacturing facilities in Houston, Texas, Florence, Ala., and Farnham.

As executive vice president, Gallo will add oversight responsibility for all the Domco Tarkett Group’s manufacturing operations. He will retain his management responsibilities for the Domco Division.

Gallo has more than 29 years of experience in wall- and floor-covering manufacturing, including seven years of executive-level management experience with Tarkett Inc. He joined Tarkett in 1987 as vice president and general manager of the tile division and later as executive vice president of operations, where he directed all of the company’s manufacturing and research and development initiatives.

Domco Tarkett Inc., with its head office in Farnham, Quebec, is the second largest North American manufacturer of vinyl and hardwood flooring. With nine manufacturing facilities and an extensive distribution network serving all regions of Canada and the United States, it offers one of the most comprehensive, high quality product lines in the flooring industry. Its products are sold to commercial and residential users under the Azrock, Domco, Nafco, Tarkett and Harris Tarkett brands. Domco Tarkett employs approximately 2,300 people and its annual sales are expected to exceed $700 million.
